How do I apply to college?

You can apply to study a full or part-time course at the college on our website. To do so you can apply here. Alternatively, you can find the course area you’re looking to apply for, click on a course page and apply from there. To apply you’ll need to create an account with us and to do so you’ll need to provide some personal details such as your name, email address and you’ll create a password. If you at any time forget your password, there’s a password reset function too.

Once you create an account you’ll be sent an email with your account details including your username. Keep this email safe as you’ll need to use your username every time you log back into your account.

We take applications all year so there is no deadline. For full-time courses with us, it’s best to apply as early as possible to avoid disappointment. For part-time courses, applications open from July, for a September start.

Problems with accessing your application account

When applying to the college for our full-time and some part-time courses, you will be required to create an account on our applications portal. If you are experiencing issues with accessing your account, please have a look at our application support guidance information for further help.

College events (Virtual Open Evenings)

The College ran its latest series of Virtual Open Evenings between 1st - 4th February 2021. While the live events themselves have now taken place you can still register to access any of the events and get access to any of the event content, including being able to watch a recording of the live Q&A sessions. Reporting an absence from college (including COVID-19 related absences)

If you are to be absent from college for something COVID-19 related, we need you to tell us as soon as possible. If you have had a positive test, it is important that you tell us straight away. That way we can retrace your movements in and around the college, find out who you may have been in contact with and inform them to isolate, keeping themselves and others safe.

If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and have yet to have a test or are waiting for a result, it is also important for you to tell us as soon as you can. We can again look at who you may have come into contact with to inform them to isolate as a precaution.

We have produced a simple COVID-19 test reporting system for you to use. Please complete it to the best of your ability – the more information you can provide, the better.

What financial support is available whilst at college?

To receive financial support from the College you’ll need to complete a college finance application. You can come into any campus to pick up a form or print from the website, you can also wait for enrolment letter which will have a finance application form attached. To be eligible for financial support you’ll need to live in a household with less than £30,000 a year net income. You may be entitled to support with equipment costs, travel costs, meal costs and childcare funding, if you have children.

There is also support with course fees for students studying a co-funded course up to Level 2. Your household income will need to be between £16,009.51 and £30,000 net. You will need to provide proof of the household income.

On the form you’ll be asked to supply evidence to help us process your claim. Without this evidence you’ll not be able to receive support.

Applying for a Higher Education/University level course

All of our university level courses can be found on the university level section. For full-time HE courses applications go through UCAS and part-time HE courses are direct to the college. You can find more information about applying for a HE course here.

Enquiries about exams or certificates

Our exams page provides information about our exams and how you can apply as a private candidate. If you are a student of the college and you’d like to know about resit dates or how to collect your GCSE and A Level results, you can also find more information on our exams page. How do I apply for an ESOL course?

We run a range of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) programmes for those aged 16-18 and adults. To apply you can pick up an ESOL application form from any of our centres or contact contact our partners BEGIN. You can make contact with them by calling 0115 978 0942 or emailing

Where can I find the term dates/college calendar?

Our term dates are available on our college calendar. This changes every year so please make sure you are looking at the academic year you need.

How do I apply for an apprenticeship?

The college advertises hundreds of apprentice vacancies every year. Our latest vacancies can be found here. If you find a job you think you’d be interested in, and are right for, click on the more details tab and from here you can apply. You can also call the apprenticeships team on 0115 9457260 or email

You don’t have to pay to do an apprenticeship. In fact, you get paid to do a job. Each of our vacancy adverts tell you the wage that the job expects to pay you. The employer who takes you on can receive funding to create your job, and the amount of funding will depend on how big they are as a business.
